I Want To Believe

Romney’s somewhat swift departure from the race surprised me. Given his rather vocal base of support from party extremists, I figured he’d stay in and continue to chip away at McCain. I guess having spent a pretty large amount of his personal fortune trying to achieve the Presidency finally took its toll.

What’s interesting about this election so far is that the moderate forces in both parties seem to be rising up to vote for the moderate candidates. McCain is no friend to hardcore Republicans and evangelicals, but he’s receiving support that would typically come from voters who couldn’t be arsed to get involved until November. Perhaps the last 8 years have highlighted the need for someone who appeals to the majority of people.
